20%salary increase: insufficient for factor workers who perform Boeing combat airplanes and threaten a strike

The members of a union of workers who meet the Boeing hunting aircraft in Missouri and Illinois rejected on Sunday, July 27, the proposal of the new commercial contract of the manufacturer of US airplanes, racing the way for a possible strike.

The workers who gather Boeing hunting airplanes raised the tone. On Sunday, July 27, they rejected the proposal of the new commercial contract for Equipan Plaisteur.

However, it is urgent that the unions and Boeing are reaching an agreement, the company’s current contract expired at midnight on Sunday night. If no agreement is reached within seven days, section 837 of IAM could trigger a strike.

“The most generous contract proposal”

“We are disappointed that our employees have rejected the most generous contract proposal that we have presented in IAM 837, and that he responded to all his priorities expressed,” Dan Gillian, Vice President of Boeing Air Dominance and Boss of the St. Louis site.

In a statement communicated to the AFP, he said that no discussion was provided with the union and that the company was now focusing on “preparations for a strike.” Boeing’s proposal included an increase in 20% wages for four years and more license.

The overwhelming majority of the 3,200 members of the Union who work in Boeing sites in St. Louis, St. Charles (Missouri) and Mascautah (Illinois) considered that they did not meet their needs and did not guarantee a safe future, according to the union.

New generation of F-47 Combat aircraft for the United States Air Force

In March, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced a new contract with Boeing for a new generation of combat planes, called F-47, which has to replace the F-22, in service for twenty years.

The announcement fell well for Boeing, who has been going through a deep crisis since last year due to the quality problems of its production and a strike of more than fifty days that paralyzed its two main factories.

IAM represents approximately 600,000 active and retired members in the aerospace, defense, airlines, naval, rail, transport, health, automotive and other industries in the United States and Canada.
