Toulouse-Paris at 3:10 am: the LGV project is in the rails by 2032, but the worried regions fear that the State refuses to pay

The regions of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie ask the State to maintain their financial participation for the future high-speed line ahead of Bordeaux in Toulouse and Dax. 40% of the project must be provided by the State, or around 6 billion.

The regions of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie and four other communities in the Southwest requested Thursday that the State maintained “its financial commitments” in the project of a future high-speed rail line to link Bordeaux with Toulouse and Dax.

This new infrastructure, valued at 14.3 billion euros in 2020, must be financed to 40% by the State, 40% by local authorities in Westy and New Aquitanine and 20% by the European Union.

This financing plan was validated last week by administrative justice after the appeal of the opponents, but according to several articles of humanity and then Echos, the government could, for budgetary reasons, reevaluate its support for the project, whose first works began 18 months ago.

“The site cannot be interrupted by an already short-term accounting vision,” alerts the two regions in a joint press release, the Toulouse and Bordeaux metropolis, and the departments of Haute-Garon and Landes, asking the State to maintain “their financial commitments.”

A 40 -year commitment to 0.03% of the annual budget

For these communities, the participation of the State in this project funded for 40 years would represent “an investment in the future of around 140 million euros per year”, or “0.03% of its annual budget.”

“Back to this project would also be deprived of the territory of the European Union financing of 3 billion euros, which would be a financial and strategic failure,” he also warns of these communities.

The southwest LGV must link, in 2032, Toulouse in Paris at 3:10 am, winning an hour on the current route. A branch must gather Dax to Bordeaux in 20 minutes less and, one day, allow direct connections to Spain. If the project is widely supported in Occitania, some communities in New Aquitanine oppose it, such as the City Council of Bordeaux or the community of agglomeration of countries in the Basque Country, and some have resigned from funds or have voted a lower contribution than expected.
