Returned by Trump, who accuses her of having false figures, the work of employment statistics will be replaced in “three or four days”

The US President sent to the Commissioner of the Federal Statistics Office, an organization that publishes the reference figures on employment, after the publication of bad figures in July.

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said he was going to appoint a new person during the week to the head of the main economic statistics agency in the United States, whose commissioner has just returned, raising concerns about the independence of this organization.

Donald Trump had aroused the astonishment of economists and his political opponents by asking for the dismissal of Erika Mcentfer on Friday after the publication of deficient employment figures for July. “We are going to announce a new statistic in approximately three, four days,” he said in an exchange on Sunday night with journalists broadcast on American television.

“One more scam”

“Just before the elections, this woman had published phenomenal figures on the economy of (Joe) Biden. And then, just after the elections, they announced that these figures were false. (…) My opinion is that it is just one more scam,” added Donald Trump, reiterating his accusations according to which the manager accelerated the figures in the past of the previous democratic administration.

Erika Mtntarfer is the commissioner of the Federal Statistics Office, an organization that publishes reference figures on employment, productivity and prices in the United States. On Friday, the monthly employment report in the United States has surprised a darker table than expected of the state of the labor market, at a time when experts are planning a deceleration in economic activity under the effect of the customs offensive of US President.

In particular, the number of jobs that were supposed to be created during the months of May and June was reviewed strongly down. The corrected figures (19,000 in May and 14,000 in June) are shown at the lowest from the Covid-19 pandemic. “If I directed the federal statistics office and had a figure that included a huge and politically important review, then it would have given a very long report that explains what happened. And we did not have it,” added Kevin Hassett.
