The French industrial production “strongly” was recovered in June, announced on Tuesday, August 5, the INSE, which grew 3.8% for a month after a 0.7% decrease in May.
Similarly, manufacturing production only increased by 3.5% after a 1.2% decrease in May, driven by the manufacture of transport equipment, and particularly by aeronautical and spatial construction, specifies the National Institute of Statistics.
This figure is clearly higher than the analysts interviewed by Reuters, who were presenting on average an increase in industrial production of one month in June.
“Exceptional increase” of the production of transport equipment
May developments have been reviewed down, Insee initially announced respective decreases of 0.5% and 1% for industrial and manufacturing productions. For a year, in the second quarter of 2025, compared to the second quarter of 2024, industrial production has dropped 0.4%, manufacturing production increased 0.2%.
Between May and June, the production of transport equipment increases by 16.6% after +0.3% in May. An “exceptional increase”, emphasizes Inee, transported mainly by the manufacture of “other transport equipment” (naval, railroad construction …), rise category 26.7% after +1.8% in May.
The total is triggered by aeronautical and spatial construction, for a capture effect in the month of accumulated delays during the quarter, and “the lifting of limitations in supply chains for certain companies of this branch,” specifies the INEE. Motor production increased by 1.1% after a 1.9% decrease in May.
Strong increase in energy production
Production is clearly accelerated in extractive, energy and water industries ( +5.0% after +1.7%) and almost find its level in February after a fall in recent months. It is also recovered in the manufacture of electrical, electronic and computer equipment (+4.2% after -1.0%) and very strongly in cokéfaction and refining (+21.2% after -7.2%): In this sector, the activity had been affected by the planned refinery stops for maintenance between March and May.
Production bounces more moderately in food industries ( +0.8% after -0.9%) and is almost stable in “other industrial products” (metallurgy, chemistry, pharmacy …): +0.1% after -1.4%).
For a year, production increases more clearly in the manufacture of transport equipment (+7.4%), observes INSEE, but decreased in all other large branches: in extractive industries, energy, water (-3.1%), the manufacture of “other industrial products (metallurgy, chemistry, pharmacy …)”, reduction of 0.9%, cokéfaction and refinement (-6.6.8%), Agarmacia (-1. Electric, electronic and computer (-0.5%).
