“There is no health risk.” The general secretary of the Gard Prefecture was reassuring this Sunday, August 10 at 5 pm on Sunday, when he announced that the fire of a chlorinated product factory classified in Seveso in Lédenon had been established.
“We have carried out aerial toxicity measures and the results that have been given demonstrate that there is no health risk. Therefore, we decided to increase the confinement in the sector that was in the company,” said Yann Gérard, also a sub -prefect of the Nîmes district.
A “smoke release” was observed from 9:30 am at the Hydrapro factory, specializing in the manufacture of chlorinated pebbles for pool maintenance, explained the prefecture. It is likely that thirty tons of chlorinated products rise with smoke. Firefighters managed to circumscribe the fire to a small part of the stock.
A chemical incident
“This chemical incident has generated an important chlorinated steam authorization,” said the sub -prefect whose services had established a containment perimeter for several hours.
The state specialized services in industrial risk events will go there to inspections. “The last event took place in July 2023. The DREAL (Regional Directorate of Environment, Planning and Housing) will certainly recommend new additional measures,” said the sub -prefect.
To determine the causes of this fire, an investigation was entrusted to the Marguerite Gendarmerie Autonomous Brigade. According to a BFMTV source, the accidental thesis is privileged.
