Roof, degradation … The government wants to reduce unemployment compensation for high income

In his framing letter addressed to social partners this weekend, Prime Minister François Bayrou wishes to adapt the unemployment compensation of the beneficiaries to their income before the loss of employment.

How much more are your life, the less you will be covered by unemployment? In any case, this is what is transparent in the framing letter that François Bayrou to social partners, in order to open a new cycle of negotiations on the unemployment insurance agreement.

Among the clues that will be presented on the table, this document, consulted by BFM Business, invites unions to examine “the opportunity to adapt the differences in exchange for employment according to the level of remuneration and the amount of allocation to take into account the effective capabilities to find a job.”

The Head of Government is still difficult and is careful not to specify his reflection. No example encrypted in the letter sent to social partners is detailed. Perhaps not to offend them anymore, the unions are well reensambled and had planned to meet on September 1 to decide whether or not they are launching in a new cycle of negotiations on unemployment insurance.

There is already a degradation of salary allocation beyond 4,900 euros

As a reminder, from the main unemployment insurance reform of 2019, employment applicants under 55 whose allocation exceeds 92.57 euros per day (approximately 4,940 euros in gross monthly salary) experience a disgrace of their compensation for the seventh month of payment.

Contacted by BFM Business about this measure in which social partners must discuss (if they agree to lend themselves again to the negotiation game), the Ministry of Labor did not want to give details. But a source close to the file confirms that the idea of a degradation of the assignments is privileged. The unions have their opinion on the subject.

For his part, the president of the CFTC Cyril Chabaier fears the creation “of a new stratum of degradation”. For example, the government could boost degradation, perhaps less brutal, applies to receptors whose income before employment loss is between 3,500 and 4,900 euros monthly gross.
