Customs duties: the chocolate manufacturer Lindt could relocate the production of their rabbits in the United States

The Swiss company Lindt, which hopes to escape the new US customs rights, could relocate part of its production in the United States.

The famous golden rabbits of Chocolatier Lindt could now occur in the United States, said American Bloomberg agency on Monday, August 18. Currently produced in Germany, the relocation of its production would allow the Swiss company to avoid US customs tasks of 15% imposed on the European Union.

While the cocoa market has been lit for months, relocating its production of rabbits in the United States could allow Lindlt not to increase its prices again and maintain its market share.

Lindt sales increasing

Lindt sold 2 billion Swiss francs, or 2.12 billion euros in sales in the United States in 2024. The United States is the first chocolate market and the main market in Lindt, ahead of Germany and Switzerland. In total, Lindt made 5.47 billion sales in 2024, 5% more than in 2023.

In order not to lose this market, the Swiss chocolate manufacturer could invest $ 10 million in the United States. Lindt had already launched the expansion of his factory in New Hampshire, which could accommodate the production of golden rabbits.
