Hard blow for the French vineyards: the EU “has not been successful” to make Trump’s customs duties disappear in the wine

The European Union commissioner, Maros Sefcovic, said that the trade agreement concluded with the United States had not allowed an exemption from customs duties for wine.

Wines will not be exempt from customs tasks. Despite its negotiation efforts, the European Union “has failed to” obtain the exemption of customs duties for wines, said a European commissioner, on Thursday, August 21, the date of the end of the commercial agreement with the United States.

The wine sector will now be taxed at 15% at the entrance to the United States, the European Commissioner Maros Sefcovic announced. “Unfortunately, we were not successful,” he said at a press conference. This exemption was strongly claimed in particular in France and Italy.
