The president of the ECB Christine Lagarde judged on Monday that an acquisition of the American monetary policy of Donald Trump would be “a very serious danger” for the American and world economy.
“If there were a very serious danger for the American economy and for the global economy,” he said on classical radio, remembering that the American Central Bank (Fed) policy “obviously has effects in the United States to maintain prices stability and guarantee optimal employment.”
“Very difficult” to “convert the majority”
Christine Lagarde, however, added that it will be “very difficult” for Donald Trump to achieve such a situation, because “the United States Supreme Court, which is widely respected in the country and that I hope he is also respected by him, said that the governor can only be revoked by serious misconduct.”
“So I think it will be very difficult for him to arrive (between) the Council of Governors who gather the seven who are in Washington” plus those of US regional banks “to completely convert the majority,” added the president of the ECB.
Donald Trump, who believes that he has his opinion on monetary policy, and regularly wants FED to reduce its interest rates, try to undermine some of its highest officials. After having invented the president of the institution for months, Jerome Powell, which he had designated for this position during his first term, the US president is now trying to revoke one of the governors, Lisa Cook, accused by the presidential field of having lied to obtain loans at a more favorable rate.
