Child assistance (ASE) not only accompanies minors. According to the figures published by DREES this Thursday, September 4, ASE was well received by a number of 32,200 young adults between 18 and 21 years at the end of 2024, a 7% number compared to the end of 2023.
In number 46,300, the MNA and the ex-MNA that have become adults, represent a fifth of young people welcome by ASE (especially in the adoptive family or in an establishment), according to the annual social assistance survey of the statistical management of the social ministries.
The ex-MNA number that have become a greater support increased by 6% for a year, according to these data obtained 93 departments. In March, the Court of Auditors, however, pointed out a disparate support for adults accompanied by ASE.
The number of minors that MNA supported fell 3% for a year, to 29,200, but its number tripled between 2015 and 2024.
More than 380,000 beneficiaries of Child Social Assistance
At the end of 2024, 402,400 ASE measures were being carried out, including 55% of the reception outside the family home (by the Foster family or at home, for example) and 45% of the family’s educational actions. Its number was stable (+1%) for a year.
In total, at the end of 2023, 384,900 young people were beneficiaries of ASE measures (some of which may be the subject of several measures), explained DREES researchers during a press conference. ASE expenses increased by 6% between 2022 and 2023 to 11 billion euros. The care of a beneficiary is 43,900 euros per year in an establishment already 35,400 euros with the Foster family.
