An investment of 4.5 billion euros: Totalnergies and RWE designated to build the giant wind farm in Normandy

The future Wind Park “Center Manche 2” must be built 40 kilometers from Calvados, with a production capacity of 1.5 Gigavatios (GW). Its production should begin in 2033.

Totalnergies and the German group RWE were designated to build a giant wind farm in the Normandy Sea, the Government announced on Wednesday, September 24. This park, called “Center Manche 2”, must be built 40 kilometers from Calvados, with a production capacity of 1.5 Gigawatt (GW).

This represents the equivalent of a reactor of the Penly Energy Station (1.3GW), which has two. The investment for this project is estimated at 4.5 billion euros, and will constitute the most important totality in France for thirty years. Electricity production must begin in 2033.

Totalnergies and RWE were preferred to the consortium gathered around EDF, which won the call to tenders of the park “Center Manche 1”. However, the duo could evolve. As announced by the specialized media of Greenuniverse, RWE would like to retire from wind to sea in France.

“After a strategic magazine of its investments, RWE expressed the desire to abandon the consortium, subject to the agreement of the French authorities. In all cases, Totalgies will continue the project assuming all the commitments of the consortium and will propose to bring a new partner in the project,” said the press release published by Totalnergies.
