Inflation has been galloping since the beginning of the year. According to panelist NielsenIQ, it has now even passed the token 10% bar. All departments combined, seven in 10 products saw their prices increase by more than 10% between January and November 2022.
Among the highest price increases are frozen meats (+29.34% year-on-year), paper towels (+25.78%), toilet paper (+20.56%), pasta (+20.3%), oil (+20.2%), fats such as butter, margarine or fresh cream (+17.64%), eggs (+16.23%), canned vegetables (+15.54%), animal feed (+14.65% ), frozen meals (+14.6%) and rice (+14.24%).
+15.15% for “first price” brands
It is the cheapest products that suffer the most from inflation: the prices of “first price” brands (+15.15%) and private label (+13.65%) soar between January and November 2022, due to very tight costs and a lower margin than the main brands. They are followed, not far behind, by manufacturers’ brands (+8.68%). According to NielsenIQ, the inflation peak in France should be around 13% in March or next April.
