“Do we measure what this means?”: The number two in health insurance fears the consequences of a “far-right budget” in the event of dissolution

Given the current political instability, Marguerite Cazeneuve warns against the rise to power of the extreme right in the event of its dissolution and the consequences in terms of access to care in the next budget.

There seems to be no reservation service for health insurance. On Tuesday, October 7, its CEO, Marguerite Cazeneuve, published a long “general policy post” on the professional social network LinkedIn. “We, public officials, are guaranteeing the continuity of the state,” begins the senior official. “Yet we become fallible, as political instability becomes normalized,” it continues as an introduction.

While the resigning Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu tries his best to find a compromise with the political parties for this Wednesday night, the number two of the National Health Insurance Fund (CNAM) has an alarmist speech, warning against the emergence of the extreme right in the event of a new dissolution of the National Assembly.

“The continuation of the film takes place in real time on the other side of the Atlantic: accession to the international autocracy, the annihilation of science, the disqualification of judges, the muzzle of the media, the activation of militias, etc.”, it develops, referring to the policy carried out by Donald Trump in the United States. The American president notably returned to women’s abortion rights. This year, for example, he canceled a recommendation from his predecessor Joe Biden on the use of voluntary termination of pregnancy (abortion) in hospitals.

A plan of 3.9 billion euros in savings by 2026

Recalling the absence of an absolute majority in the National Assembly, Marguerite Cazeneuve considers that no political force can “change course” or “overturn the table.” That is why he calls on them to find an agreement and therefore “abandon the totems and red lines.” “Commitment to the investigation, disappearance,” he presses.

Marguerite Cazeneuve concluded her speech by defending the conclusions of the latest Camm and Products report. Presented at the beginning of summer, this document is supposed to guide public authorities for the next Social Security financing bill (PLFSS). A kind of “health conclave” according to her, which “resulted in a proposal for 3.9 billion euros in adjustment by 2026. That’s all,” said the wife of former Health Minister Efema Aurélien Rousseau.

If this is still far from the 5.5 billion announced this summer by former Prime Minister François Bayrou, the report in particular suggests limiting the duration of work stoppages to more than 15 days and also evokes an extension of the deficiency period from three to seven days, which could be compensated by a transfer of charges to employers, through their provident coverage.
