France is still waiting for the “completion” of the European Commission’s work on the implementation of the trade agreement between the EU and the Mercosur countries, declared Emmanuel Macron, while Germany is pressing for its application as quickly as possible.
“We have safeguard clauses, reinforcement of customs controls, support for livestock farming, numerous support measures and also better control of sanitary and phytosanitary products that enter our soil, which are being applied,” declared Emmanuel Macron this Thursday afternoon during a press conference in Brussels, after a European Council.
“Everything is going in the right direction.”
“Today the French government, like the others, awaits these answers. But all this is going in the right direction to protect the most exposed sectors and also to protect European consumers,” continued the Head of State, expecting these answers “in the coming weeks.”
For his part, the German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, indicated that the European Council had given the green light on Thursday to a calendar that foresees, in the event of an agreement between the Twenty-Seven, the signing of the EU-Mercosur agreement on December 19.
