France will deliver “additional” Aster anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine in the “coming days” as well as Mirage fighter jets, President Emmanuel Macron said Friday, October 24, to Ukraine’s allies meeting by video conference. “We will deliver additional Aster missiles, new training programs and new Mirages in the coming days,” he said from Paris, without further details.
Three Mirages have already been delivered
So far, France has delivered three of the promised six Mirage 2000s to Ukraine, in particular due to the training needs of Ukrainian pilots. One of the planes was shot down in July. The Aster 15 and 30 missiles, produced in cooperation between Paris and Rome, operate with the SAMP/T MAMBA device, a Franco-Italian air defense system equivalent to the American Patriot.
Both countries have provided an unspecified number of these missiles to the Ukrainians for their air defense, who are asking for more to defend themselves. The meeting is co-chaired by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, along with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky from London and the French President.
