“Neither light nor hard nor anything at all”: the National Group will oppose the Zucman tax on the very rich, including the version proposed by the socialists

According to RN president Marine Le Pen, the “light” Zucman tax proposed by the PS is even a “worse version” of the initial project because it will affect “many more people.”

The president of the deputies of the National Assembly, Marine Le Pen, announced this Tuesday that her group will oppose the Zucman tax of minimum taxation on high assets, even in the lighter version proposed by the Socialist Party.

“For us it is not a question of that,” insisted the far-right leader, estimating that the socialist version that seeks to introduce a 3% tax on great wealth, starting at 10 million euros, excluding innovative and family businesses, is actually “worse” because it affects “many more people” than the original version.

The tax proposed by the economist Gabriel Zucman and supported by the entire left provides for a minimum tax of 2% on assets over 100 million euros. The right and the central bloc also oppose this tax, but the socialists hope to convince the Government with their lighter proposal.

The government against any tax that affects the “productive apparatus”

Shortly after his arrival in Matignon, Sébastien Lecornu warned that he would oppose the approval of the tax in its initial version. On Tuesday, her government spokesperson Maud Brégeon reiterated that the government would fight against any tax that “affects the productive system, factories or large emerging companies that create innovation.” On Sunday, PS First Secretary Olivier Faure once again threatened the government with censure if it did not move forward on this issue.

“For the extreme right, the working classes must pay the billionaires’ tax,” he reacted on Tuesday about “all the horrors contained” in the State and Social Security budget projects currently under discussion in the Assembly.

Olivier Faure also recalled that the RN had opposed the day before “two billion in taxes on the 400 largest companies with a turnover of more than one billion.” After having obtained the abandonment of 49.3 and the suspension of the pension reform, the pink party hopes to be able to take advantage of its advantage on the issue of tax justice against a government under the threat of censure.
