Following the sale of child pornography dolls on Shein, the High Commissioner for Children will call on e-commerce platforms

High Commissioner for Children Sarah El-Haïry said she wanted to “understand who authorized the sale of these objects” and “what processes were put in place so that this does not happen again.”

The High Commissioner for Children, Sarah El-Haïry, announced on Sunday her intention to summon “all major e-commerce platforms” following the discovery of child pornography dolls sold on the Shein site, promising to trace them back to the “suppliers.”

Shein has been reported to French justice for marketing “sex dolls that look like children,” which the Asian e-commerce giant claims to have removed from its platform.

Removing these items from sale is not a sufficient action, El-Hairy said on RTL. “I want to understand who authorized the sale of these objects, what processes were put in place so that this does not happen again, (and) who the suppliers are, because there are many people who produce these absolutely despicable dolls,” he said. “A platform that agrees to market these objects is in a way complicit,” according to her.

Other platforms “use tricks”

He mentioned the possibility of a “discussion” with Shein to obtain communication of the files of the buyers of these dolls in France. “The people who bought these dolls used their credit cards and had them shipped to their home or office,” she continued.

“These are not pornographic objects, they are pedocriminal objects,” he said, stressing that the possession of pedocriminal objects and images “falls within the law.” “It is unacceptable to allow platforms and marketplaces to market articles about child abuse,” he declared. “We know that the possession of criminal images or objects of children leads to acts of violence.”

The High Commissioner for Children intends to call, with the Minister of Commerce, Serge Papin, “all the large platforms that sell in France”, ensuring that “beyond Shein”, other platforms “use tricks” to avoid being persecuted by not providing “descriptions of the objects” they sell.

“They will put the image, the photo,” but “they don’t put in the keywords that it is a sex doll.” “They are trying to waste our time” and “endanger the children,” according to her.
