He “very strongly” condemned his partner Shein. Questioned this Monday on BFM TV, Karl-Stéphane Cottendin, CEO of BHV and the SGM group, declared himself “shocked” by the child sex dolls offered on the ultra-fast fashion sales platform Shein.
It also confirms that the store will open its doors as planned on November 5. “The objective is not to create expectation, but to do business.” However, he did not give dates for the opening of other stores later.
Karl-Stéphane Cottendin persists and signs: “we must open it, we must welcome our consumers” and indicates that the group “firmly believes in the model according to which [ils sont] labor.”
He continues: “we are not going to ban Shein from our store, the idea is to learn to do it even better” and highlights the traceability of what will be sold in the stores.
On the façade of the BHV, the head of Shein Donald Tang and the head of the department store company (SGM), owner of the BHV, Frédéric Merlin, all appear smiling on a huge poster.
While considering the sale of these dolls “indecent” and “unacceptable”, Frédéric Merlin defended the partnership with Shein on Monday.
“The very principle of our collaboration is clear: only clothing and items designed and produced directly by Shein for BHV will be sold in the store,” he says. “No products from Shein’s international market are affected.”
The Origine France Garantie association is calling for a media boycott of Shein, whose store will open on the eve of the Made in France fair in Paris, from Thursday to Sunday.
