Questions and answers: How the extraordinary support of 125 euros works

The Treasury Department released a document today answering several questions about who benefits from this aid and how it is processed.

Here are some questions and answers about this support:

Who benefits from this support?

Support is provided to residents with a gross income of up to 2,700 euros per month, which corresponds to 37,800 euros per year, whether it concerns income holders who pay IRS (above 8,500 euros/year) or incomes that do not deliver.

The measure also affects recipients of unemployment benefits; social unemployment benefit; parental benefits with a monthly reference wage of a maximum of 2,700 euros; sickness and occupational disease benefits, provided for a period of at least one month and with a monthly reference salary not exceeding EUR 2,700; and income for social inclusion, older than 18 years.

It is also intended for beneficiaries of social benefits for inclusion, who are over the age of 18; of the solidarity allowance for the elderly, without an allocated pension or who receives an allowance to support the main caregiver.

What are the eligibility criteria for income?

According to the Treasury Department, the eligibility criterion is individual rather than aggregate income, even in cases of joint taxation.

Is a 26-year-old living at home with his parents covered by the measure?

Finance gives the example of a 26-year-old living in his parents’ house to illustrate that he is entitled if he has declared income to the IRS and as long as it does not exceed the stated maximum gross income.

“If you have an income that is less than $8,500 per year and you have not declared an IRS (because you are exempt from the declaration obligation), you will receive support if you have contributed to Social Security,” he explains.

If you haven’t taken Social Security deductions, you can still file the IRS statement (for 2021) to take advantage of the support.

Do retirees also receive this support?

No, pensioners are covered by the special allowance for pensioners.

When will the support be paid?

The aid will be paid in October 2022 and is net of tax.

What do I need to do to get extraordinary income support?

The right to support is automatically determined by the Tax Authorities (AT) and the Social Security Institute.

For people with an income of up to 37,800 euros per year and who have filed a tax return with the Tax Authorities in the past year, the payment is made based on the bank details in the Finance Portal. In the other covered cases, exceptional income support is processed by social security, the government emphasizes.

The government gives as an example that in the case of a couple of whom one of the elements receives unemployment benefits and the other works and earns less than 2,700 gross euros per month, “one is identified via AT (because he has income from work and the Model 3 income statement from the IRS) and another through Social Security (to be a beneficiary of one of the social benefits covered by the measure)”.

How is this support paid?

Support is paid “preferably by bank transfer to the IBAN available on the Finance Portal or Social Security Direct. Holders who have not yet declared an IBAN should therefore provide it via the website or at the branch”.
