Complicated weekend ahead for French stations: a strike initiated by a group of controllers has forced the SNCF to cancel 60% of its TGV and Intercités from Friday to Sunday, and raises fears of new interruptions during the weekend celebrations year.
The controllers decided to stop work throughout the weekend to demand better recognition of their status.
“In total, more than 80% are on strike and more than 90% on the TGV, it is unheard of,” said Nicolás Limón, a member of the ASCT National Collective (CNA), launched in September on Facebook against any union. and which today has about 3,000 members.
“The management did not take the measure of discontent”
The nearly 10,000 SNCF train supervisors, of whom nearly 3,000 work at TGV and Intercités, play an essential role in traffic and passenger safety. Without them, the trains cannot run.
Therefore, the weekend promises to be extremely disrupted and a “gradual recovery” is expected on Monday, with three out of four trains on all TGV axes. The Atlantic axis is especially affected, with only one in four TGVs, as for the Ouigos.
“It’s a strike that we didn’t see coming, neither we nor the unions,” SNCF director general Jean-Pierre Farandou admitted on Thursday during a conference organized by Challenges magazine. “We were a bit surprised by this move,” he admitted.
