Which minister of the Born government has the greatest wealth?

If the Minister of Justice, Eric Dupond-Moretti, has the highest gross assets, he has a debt of more than one million euros. It is the economist Laurence Boone who has the greatest net worth.

What do the ministers of Elisabeth Borne’s government have? This Thursday, December 1, the High Authority for the Transparency of Public Life (HATVP) made public the assets and declarations of interests of the ministers required by law since the Cahuzac affair of 2013.

If the inheritance of ex-minister Caroline Cayeux, whose HATVP funding she questions, is not published on the site, that of the 27-member Borne government shows significant disparities in situations.

Thus, on the Bercy side, it is not Bruno Le Maire who has the most important heritage. The total assets and investments of the Minister of Economy, number 2 of the government protocol order, amounts to 294,994 euros according to our calculations. This patrimony is made up of a 310 m² house in the Basque Country of which he only owns 16% through an SCI (declared market value of 150,000 euros), various accounts and financial investments for a total amount of 119,994 euros and paintings and furniture for a total amount of 25,000 euros.

The budget minister, Gabriel Attal, has a much greater wealth. The son of the lawyer and film producer Yves Attal, who died in 2015, took out life insurance for a total amount of 1.46 million euros in April 2016. He has more than 61,000 euros in his checking account and about 70,000 euros in a PEL. The total amount of Gabriel Attal’s financial assets amounts, therefore, to 1.59 million euros, which makes the 33-year-old minister one of the richest in the Government. On the other hand, he does not own any property and in 2017 he took out a loan with a fine of 670,000 euros, the capital of which he has yet to repay according to his statement.

Little liquidity for Olivier Veran

If Gabriel Attal only has financial assets, that of government spokesman Olivier Veran is the opposite. If the total possessions of the former Minister of Health amount to 979,702 euros, it is essentially real estate: bare ownership of a house in the Var (105,000 euros), 36% of a LIC (230,000 euros), a 150 m² house in Isère (640,000 euros) and two cars (Renault and Citroën) for a total amount of 27,000 euros. On the other hand, the former neurologist, according to his statement, has “only” 4,702 euros of financial assets, including 4,600 euros in checking accounts and 102 euros in LDD and A book.

As an anecdote, some ministers have declared current accounts in debit. Thus Marlène Schiappa is in red for 52 euros in one of her current accounts, Gérald Darmanin has a debt of 691 euros and the Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu declared a current account in red up to 2370 euros.

The government millionaires

In the government, several ministers are also millionaires. In addition to Gabriel Attal, this is the case of Elisabeth Borne (1.67 million euros). The former president of the RATP owns two apartments in Paris and in Hauts-de-Seine for a total amount of 1.29 million euros and various financial investments.

Agnès Pannier-Runacher’s heritage is even more important. With a total amount of 2.68 million euros, it consists of two Parisian apartments, life insurance and various financial investments. Keep in mind, however, that the Minister of Energy Transition leaves a lot of money in her checking accounts. She has one with Société Générale, creditor for 516,000 euros and another with Axa Banque on which she has 87,450 euros.

Agnès Pannier-Runacher is not, however, the minister with the most important assets. The Minister of Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti declares a gross patrimony of more than 4.5 million euros (3.41 million taking into account the debt including a consumer loan of 9333 euros). A mainly real estate estate (2.5 million euros) of the former lawyer as well as many various movable assets such as a Rolex Daytona watch (13,000 euros), a Journe (25,000 euros) as well as many vehicles such as two Harley Davidson motorcycles (41,815 euros in total) or a 2007 Bentley (55,000 euros).

If the gross net worth of the Minister of Justice is the highest, in net it is Laurence Boone who has the most important. The Secretary of State in charge of Europe owns, among other things, apartments in Paris, life insurance, options on Axa shares for a total amount of 3.71 million euros. Former Bank of America Chief Economist for Europe Merrill Lynch You have no debt on this estate.
