Gas consumption falls 10.5% since August 1 in France

GRTgaz attributes this decline to the drop in consumption by large industrial companies (-22.1%) and by customers connected to the grid (-14.1%), while the consumption of gas-fired power plants increased strongly (+ 43.5%).

Gas consumption has fallen 10.5% since August 1 in weather-corrected data in France, according to the first weekly winter dashboard published on Wednesday by gas transportation manager GRTgaz.

This decrease is a consequence of both the lower gas consumption of the large manufacturers (-22.1%) and the decrease in the consumption of customers connected to the distribution networks (-14.1%). However, these figures are compared with a significant increase (+43.5%) in the consumption of gas power plants “highly in demand to compensate for the lack of availability of the nuclear fleet”, underlines GRTgaz in a press release.
