The number of companies created in France rose again significantly in November, still supported by the dynamic creation of micro-enterprises, INSEE said on Friday. Thus, 95,797 companies were created in the country in November, an increase of 2.5% compared to some 93,500 companies created in October. “This is the sixth consecutive month of increase,” the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies said in its press release.
And the pace of business creation picked up significantly at the end of the year, as the indicator had only risen 1.6% in September and 1.7% in October.
In November, the creation of micro-businesses increased by 2.8% compared to October, reaching 60,381 business creations. As for traditional companies, creations increased by 1.9% after falling by 2.3% in October. Thus, just over 35,400 traditional companies were born in November.
Another sign of the current dynamism of the indicator, “the total number of companies created in the last twelve months (December 2021 to November 2022) increased by 1.7% compared to the same months of the previous year (December 2020 to November 2021)”, specifies the INSEE.
Failures are also increasing
In November, the creation of companies accelerated in particular in the domestic services sector (+5.3% compared to +3.4% in October), in industry (+6.8% compared to -1.4% ), as well as in education, health and social work (+ 4.3% after -1.0%). On the contrary, “they are falling back in business support (-1.8% after +4.8%), the only major sector in decline”, notes INSEE.
While business start-ups have been on a continuous rise for several months, this is also the case for business bankruptcies. According to figures published on Wednesday by the Banque de France, nearly 40,000 breakdowns were registered in France between December 2021 and November 2022, a figure that has been steadily increasing since the beginning of the year but is still significantly lower than the most of 51,000 faults identified in 2019 before the pandemic.
