Aid to companies intended to partially offset the extremely high energy costs caused by the war in Ukraine has been extended until December 2023, according to a decree published this Saturday, December 17, in the Official Gazette.
Up to 150 million euros in aid
The companies that will be able to benefit from this aid system, whose expansion and simplification the Government announced at the beginning of December, are those whose energy expenditure is equivalent to at least 3% of their billing in 2021 and whose bill increases by more than 50%. with respect to that year.
The amount of aid and the maximum limits that can be reached (elevated to 4, 50 and 150 million euros) vary according to the situation of the company.
As the allocation dedicated to this aid scheme has been underused up to now, the criteria have been simplified and a single window has been opened, aimed in particular at medium-sized companies (ETI) and large energy companies called intensive, which may require a Deposit.
European flexibility of state aid
The companies affected are those “large energy consumers that have suffered an increase in the cost of supplying natural gas, electricity, heating or cold produced from natural gas or electricity between March 2022 and December 2023” and “whose activity especially affected by the war in Ukraine,” the decree specifies.
At the end of October, the European Commission had extended until the end of 2023 the temporary relaxation of its rules that limit State aid to companies, to allow countries to continue supporting their economies in the face of the war in Ukraine and the energy rebound. price.
