The representative unions of the SNCF were to be received on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. by the general director Jean-Pierre Farandou to find a solution to the controllers’ strike of the last two weekends of December, we learned from union sources. CGT-Cheminots, Unsa-Ferroviaire, SUD-Rail and CFDT-Cheminots are invited as the government puts pressure on SNCF management to find a solution before New Year’s weekend, also threatened with strike notice. Jean-Pierre Farandou had originally planned to receive the unions on Friday morning.
The public group is facing a massive strike by its employers – the official name of the controllers – half of whom are expected to stop working this weekend, causing the cancellation of many TGVs. They are gathered in a collective that rejects any link with the unions but trusts the latter to carry out their demands.
Unsuccessful negotiations for a month and a half
Unions and management have been negotiating since early November to find a solution to the dispute, without success. A first strike on the first weekend of December had already greatly disrupted traffic, especially the TGV. The collective, which has gathered more than 3,500 members on a dedicated Facebook page, could not be reached on Thursday. The page in question was no longer visible on the social network.
No union is calling a strike, but the CGT, SUD and CFDT have stood by their notice, giving controllers the framework to stop work. Only Unsa-Ferroviaire officially disapproved of the move and withdrew its strike notice.
