Turismo de Portugal today paid 70 million euros to more than 22,800 companies

Turismo de Portugal paid a total of 70 million euros to more than 22,800 companies this Wednesday under the tourism support measure announced at the beginning of the month, the Ministry of Economy and Sea announced.

In the note released this Wednesday, the Office of the Minister of Economy and Marine reminds that the deadline for applying for financial assistance has passed on December 22 and that, given the “recorded high demand” and the budgetary allocation for the measure, “each of the companies received an increase of about 12.5% compared to the values already received in the support program”.

With the aid tourism measure, aimed at the accommodation, catering and similar sector and other tourism activities, the executive wanted to strengthen support for tourism companies that, having suffered greatly from the consequences of the covid-19 pandemic, were the subject of support under the Apoiar programme, now in a complex macroeconomic context, taking into account the impact of inflation, increased energy costs and the context of war in Europe.

“The payment, before the end of the year, of the support provided for in the ‘Support Tourism’ measure, reflects the fulfillment of a commitment made by the government at the beginning of this month and makes it possible to strengthen, by EUR 70 million, the financial resources of more than 22,800 companies in the tourism sector, to meet the growing need for cash, especially due to the increase in costs due to the current global macroeconomic context,” said Nuno Fazenda, quoted in the explanation.

The Tourism Support Measure, part of the APOIAR programme, is part of the Medium-Term Agreement to improve incomes, wages and competitiveness, signed on 9 October by the government and the social partners.
