The government extended until Jan. 2 the payment of taxes and filing of returns that ended this Friday, without applying penalties and compensatory interest or moratoria, for granting point tolerance to tax personnel, according to a published order.
The Secretary of State for Taxation, Nuno Félix, in a message signed on Thursday, links the extension to a government message published last week granting point tolerance this Friday to officials of the direct government services of the state, central or decentralized, and public institutions.
The Secretary of State reminds that the local and regional services of the Tax and Customs Service (AT) are closed today, “making it difficult or even preventing” the taxpayer from fulfilling some of his obligations, namely those of paying taxes , also in the scope of payment plans and expense claims, the term of which expires today.
“I determine the extension of the relevant period until the next January 2, 2023, without any addition or penalty, therefore it is not possible to impose penalties and set off compensatory or moratorium interest on the aforementioned payments or ancillary obligations,” he writes in the published order on the Finance Portal.
