This Wednesday, on the occasion of the first council of ministers of the year, Emmanuel Macron has called on concordant sources to the members of the Government to “not give in to the professionals of misfortune and the spell of sad spirits”. A statement that follows what Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said at breakfast, who she called to “resist headwinds”.

The head of government announced that in 2023 an “in-depth review of the quality of public spending” will be carried out.

In the midst of the energy crisis, public spending is on the rise. The final version of the Finance Bill for 2023 approved by the Assembly foresees a deficit of close to 165,000 million euros compared to the 158,000 million announced in September. The public deficit is still expected at 5% of GDP in 2023 and the government’s goal is to bring it below 3% by 2027.
