Energy contracts: the CPME requests the generalization of free termination

The CPME calls for “all companies” to be able to renegotiate overpriced energy contracts without penalties, ahead of a meeting in Bercy with restaurateurs.

The Confederation of SMEs (CPME) calls for the termination of energy contracts that are too expensive for all companies to be generalized, a few hours after a meeting with restaurateurs who should especially ask for the extension of this system put in place for bakers.

This possibility must exist “for all companies, whatever they are”, estimated Jean-Eudes du Mesnil, general secretary of the CPME, on Sud Radio. “It’s a matter of consistency at no additional cost to the community.”

The measure described as “exceptional” by the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, currently only allows bakers to terminate their energy supply contract free of charge in the event of a “prohibitive” increase in prices.

It will be applied “case by case” by energy companies, warned Bruno Le Maire, if rising prices “threaten the survival of the company.”

The restorers, received at 5:00 p.m. in Bercy, “obviously will make this request,” he added.

“The situation has become unsustainable for many” establishments, chef Thierry Marx, president of the main union of the hotel and restaurant employers, Umih, warned on Wednesday.

The restaurant sector wants “a rate shield for all companies, without conditions”, also claimed Franck Trouet, spokesman for the employers’ association of independent hotel and restaurant workers (GNI).

Bruno Le Maire, however, warned this Wednesday that restaurateurs should not expect the same help as bakers because “it is not the same situation”.

“This meeting will be an opportunity for the ministers to educate themselves about all the existing aid,” explained the Ministry of Economy to Aguas Altas.
