Emmanuel Macron urges energy providers to help very small companies in the face of rising energy prices.
Before the representatives of the bakery-pastry industry, gathered for the galette ceremony at the Élysée, the Head of State announced that these energy providers “would return to each one of these artisans” whose contracts far exceed 280 euros per megawatt hour, as of January.
Emmanuel Macron attacks those who make “excessive profits”
This rate corresponds to the reference price of the Energy Regulation Commission (CRE). However, “some small companies have seen their contracts multiply by 5 or 10”, points out the president. In his speech, he qualifies this type of price rise as “abusive” and takes the opportunity to say that he has “enough” of those who obtain “disproportionate profits”, thus pointing to large companies, energy traders.
According to Emmanuel Macron, two thirds of small businesses currently have problems with energy prices. “We must help our VSEs,” he adds. Aid that will not only affect bakers but “artisans” in general, details the Head of State, citing the case of butchers.
Among the aid provided, the tariff shield, which limits the rise in gas and electricity prices to 15% as of February 1. It applies to half of the energy consumed by these companies, according to the tenant of the Elysée. “I am by your side”, he repeats himself several times.
“I’ll ask you for an effort”
Another device, recalled by Emmanuel Macron, the “window” of assistance for the payment of electricity and gas bills”. The State supports 40% of the increase observed in energy prices. However, all this increase cannot be absorbed by the state and energy companies.
