It is this Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. that Elisabeth Borne will present the future pension reform. The central measure will obviously be the postponement of the legal age of departure to 64 years compared to the current 62 years.
What about the rest of Europe?
In some countries the current legal age of departure is not 64 but 67.
This is almost the case, for example, in Spain. There, since a reform was approved in 2011, the age limit to leave at full rate now moves a few months each year. It is now necessary to be 66 years and 4 months to receive this pension at the full rate and you will be 67 years old as of 2027.
However, keep in mind a subtlety in Spain, you can get a full pension from the age of 65 when you have worked for at least 37 years and 9 months.
A more generous system than in Germany. Across the Rhine, the starting age is now set at 65 and will also increase to 67 in 2029.
But in Germany, to get out with a full retirement before this legal age, you must have contributed for at least 45 years.
70 years in Denmark in 2040
Some countries go even further.
This is the case in Denmark, the retirement age will increase to 69 years from 2035. The Danish system has a specificity: the retirement age changes according to life expectancy. Result: it will be even 70 years in 2040.
As a result of this system, logically: the employment rate of the elderly in Denmark is one of the highest in Europe. 72% of people aged 50 to 64 are active in the labor market…
Finally, in Italy it is more complicated and the system is being reformed.
In principle, the legal retirement age is also 67 in Italy. But in practice, there are many repeals, and the latest ones were introduced by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
You can now retire in Italy from the age of 62 if you have worked for 41 years. For mothers, this starting age is even brought forward to 58 years with 35 years of contribution.
Giorgia Meloni has promised a great pension reform that should put everything back on track and in particular this legal age of 67 years.
