The CPME validates the government reform. “What we ‘buy’ because we are pragmatic is the principle of working longer,” Jean-Eudes du Mesnil, general secretary of the CPME, confirmed this Tuesday at BFM Business, a few hours after the presentation of the executive’s project.
According to him, this principle is justified by the demographic evolution with “five active persons per retiree” in 1950 and “one active person per retiree” in 2050. “It is simply not bearable”, declared Jean-Eudes du Mesnil.
CPME in favor of considering long careers and hard work
According to him, France cannot continue being “an isolated country within Europe.” “14 of the 28 EU countries have reformed pensions in the last two years. Our German neighbors who were 65 years old will be 67 in 2031 ”, he recalled. And to continue: “It would be inconceivable to imagine that only France can remain as before, without taking into account the demographic reality.”
The general secretary of the CPME, however, declares himself in favor of “taking long careers into account”. “Obviously, someone who started work early should rather be able to leave. A priori, this provision will figure well in the bill presented tonight,” he said. In the same way, Jean-Eudes du Mesnil wishes that “the most difficult trades can also get out earlier, as long as we know what we are talking about”.
