United union front for the first time in 12 years, calls from the political parties for massive mobilization, threats of paralysis… The pension reform, presented by the government on January 10, provoked the clamor of the unions.
The strike scheduled for Thursday, January 19 will therefore act as a life-size test for the unions that could, depending on the sector, continue the movement in a harsh way.
• Transport: towards a “black Thursday”?
at the SNCF, is a united union front that calls for a “strong” strike. The inter-union formed by the CGT, the Unsa, the SUD and the CFDT shows its “total opposition to the lowering of the legal retirement age to 64 years accompanied by an increase in the contribution period”.
For the moment, it is difficult to assess the impact on the supply of trains, traffic forecasts will be communicated by the SNCF the day before the strike. However, the unions want to mark the spirits with a “day of the punch”.
January 19 will be a test for the rest of the movement. Asked by BFM Business, a controller member of the ASCT collective (origin of the massive strike on the Christmas weekend) confirms: “I think we will have to wait for the day to prove what is coming.”
“We will decide according to the scope of the mobilization”, abounds Didier Mathis, general secretary of Unsa-ferroviaire, the second union of the SNCF.
in the RATP, the objective of a black day is the same for the united unions (CGT, FO, Unsa, CGC). Asked by BFM Paris, Grégoire de Lasteyrie, vice president of mobility for Île-de-France, fears that “the unions are trying to disrupt the daily life of the residents of Ile-de-France as much as possible to create a kind of boredom.” . This reform, we will announce the transportation plans the day before, ”he explains, calling on employees to telework when possible.
Remember that the RATP is especially affected by the reform with the disappearance of new members of the special pension scheme (who are incorporated into the general scheme), as was done in the SNCF.
• Energy: unions agitate gasoline shortage
Repeat again for refineries? In a statement, the CGT Oil subsidiary calls for several days of strike. The appeal will lead to “decreases in the flow” and “the cessation of shipments”, specified Éric Sellini, national coordinator of the TotalEnergies union.
In detail, the organization calls for a strike on January 19 for 24 hours, on January 26 for 48 hours and on February 6 for 72 hours. On this date, the workers will be offered the resumption of the strike “with, where appropriate, the closure of the refining facilities.”
Faced with this threat, Elisabeth Borne called on the unions “not to penalize the French”. A vast mobilization of almost a month, initiated by the CGT on September 27, with the closure of refineries and the blockade of warehouses, had caused important fuel supply difficulties in France.
• Hospital: a mobilization that goes beyond withdrawals
As is often the case, many striking caregivers will remain in their posts, but the effects of the movement are likely to influence patient intake again, especially in the ER. In fact, some healthcare professionals may not be able to go to work due to the transportation strike.
The announcement of the pension reform adds to a deep malaise regarding working and salary conditions despite the increases registered by Ségur de la Santé.
• National education: many classes will be closed
The prospect of working two more years in a profession whose entry into activity is late festers the unions. The FSU, the first teachers’ union federation, already launched a call for mobilization in education on January 17, on salaries, working conditions and professional career, the organization also joins the general strike on January 19.
He denounced “brutal and unfair measures” that “we must fight with all our might” in a press release published on January 10. “Public service quality, salaries, pensions, it is always a question of wealth distribution, the government is opening several fronts, let us be present on all of them!” He concludes.
Therefore, the strike call put forward by the profession’s main unions must be closely followed at all levels, particularly in vocational high schools.
• Civil service: a rare union front
The public service union has invited all agents to mobilize against a pension reform that it considers “unfair and unnecessary.” In a rare joint press release, the eight union organizations representing the public service “demand that the government withdraw its plan to defer the legal retirement age from 62 to 64 and increase the contribution period.
“The aforementioned improvements in the rights of agents and agents through the introduction of progressive retirement in certain cases, the conservation of the rights linked to active service and henceforth their portability, in no way can they compensate for the decrease in age of retirement”. opening of pension rights or the extension of the contribution period’, they say.
• Police: two more years that do not pass
“This is not about making the police work longer,” warns Synergie-Officiers, one of the components of the national police inter-union calling for a massive mobilization on January 19.
The reform provides for exit at full rate deferred for two years until the age of 59, maintaining the possibility of leaving at age 57 with a 5% annual discount before turning 59. A perspective rejected as a whole by the police that highlights the extreme wear due to the profession.
