Pensions: almost three out of every ten strikers in the state civil service

For once, the eight representative unions of the public service had called for mobilization. They oppose en bloc the gradual two-year change in the legal retirement age.

Almost three out of ten civil servants (29.5%) declared unemployment this Thursday in the state civil service, which has 2.5 million agents, as part of the day of mobilization against the pension reform, according to the Secretariat of the Public Function.

In the territorial civil service (almost two million agents), the rate of strikers rises to 14.4% and in the hospital civil service (1.2 million agents), it reaches 19.6%.

The eight unions had called for the mobilization

Compared to December 5, 2019, the first day of mobilization against Emmanuel Macron’s first pension reform project, the rate of strikers has dropped 3.5 points in the state civil service (33% in 2019).

It also falls slightly in the public hospital service (20% in 2019), while it advances a little on the territorial side (13.8% in 2019), according to figures from the ministry.

For once, the eight representative unions of the public service had called for mobilization. They oppose as a whole the gradual two-year change in the legal retirement age (from 62 today to 64 in 2030).

In National Education, a union stronghold in the civil service, the ministry announced this Thursday morning a rate of teacher strikes of 42.35% in primary education and 34.66% in secondary education.
