Civil servant salary increases will begin to be paid this Friday, with January’s pay and, in some cases, still without the new adjusted withholding tables to ensure workers are not penalized.
“The compensation processing computer applications managed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office Shared Services Entity, IP (eSPap) are duly updated, in particular with regard to the application of the withholding tax tables, and the compensation payment starts on January 20,” said an official source. of the Presidency Ministry told Lusa on Jan. 13.
The Federation of Executive Unions (Fesap) later warned that salary increases would in many cases be absorbed by the new IRS withholding table, with the Treasury Department guaranteeing that the tables would be corrected.
The changes are retroactive to January 1, 2023 and in some cases it should not be possible to reduce the withholding this month as there are salaries that have already been processed.
“In this month, public bodies will generally have already processed their salaries. What we will therefore do is make these rectifications as soon as necessary, but with retroactive effect to January 1,” said the State Secretary for Taxes. Affairs, Nuno Santos Félix, after meeting with Fesap.
The dates for processing public administration salaries for 2023 are set out in a message from the Central Treasury, published January 4 in the Diário da República.
According to the notification, on the 20th, the salaries of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministries of Finance, National Defence, Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Culture and Foreign Affairs will be paid until the 23rd. remaining salaries.
The Public Administration remuneration base will increase by 8% to EUR 761.58 and the gross remuneration to approximately EUR 2,600 will be updated by EUR 52.11. Above that value, the increase is 2% (resulting in an increase of more than 52.11 euros).
Compensation supplements that reference the annual government salary update or the levels of the single compensation table are updated at 2%.
In addition to salary updates, there are also valuations for the general careers of senior technician, technical assistant and operations assistant, which in some cases earn an additional 52 euros.
The salary increase measures are the result of a multi-year agreement between the government and Fesap and the Union of Technical Personnel of the State.
