Pension reform: the text presented this Monday to the Council of Ministers

The Government will present this Monday in the Council of Ministers its pension reform, which provides in particular for the postponement of the legal exit age to 64 years.

Determined to extend its calendar, the Government presents its pension reform this Monday in the Council of Ministers without giving in to the main demands of the unions, which intend to further amplify the mobilization after a massive and successful start. Labor Minister Olivier Dussopt is due to address the press with government spokesman Olivier Véran.

Le report de 62 à 64 ans de l’âge légal de départ à la retraite, mesure-phare de la réforme, est rejeté par les syndicats unanimes, ainsi que par l’essentiel des oppositions et, selon les probes, une très grande majority French.

Emmanuel Macron, who estimated on Sunday that he had already shown “openness” in relation to the program for his second five-year period that initially contemplated 65 years, refused to say clearly that he will maintain the 64 years until the end. so as not to “replace” parliamentary debate.

His ministers take turns making sure they are ready for “dialogue” to “enrich” the text… but only in the margins. They opened the door for the first time, over the weekend, to stronger measures on senior employment.

unions unanimous

Opponents of the reform tirelessly demand the complete withdrawal of the “old measures.” “We hope to make it even stronger on the 31st”, warned the general secretary of the CGT Philippe Martinez, stressing that “until then, there will be initiatives every day in the companies, in the departments”.

For his part, the leader of the CFDT, Laurent Berger, deplored the way chosen by the executive to examine his bill: a rectifying budget for Social Security, which allows the debates to be limited in time and to use the weapon of 49.3 .

In the face of discontent, the government is trying to be positive. “I don’t see a million people on the street, but a million people who have to be convinced,” said Olivier Véran… while also assuring that the number of protesters “does not change things.”
