Schools, transportation, refineries: who will strike on January 31?

Review of the different sectors that transmitted the inter-union call for a new strike movement on Tuesday, January 31.

Will January 31 be as popular as January 19? After the first day of mobilization last Thursday, the inter-union union -which brings together the CFDT, the CGT, FO, CFE-CGC, the CFTC, the UNSA, Solidaires and the FSU- wants a new street coup to push the government to abandon his pension reform plan.

If with more than a million demonstrators in the streets, “January 19” was a success for the opponents of the project, the call for the next day of mobilization was heard by a certain number of union centrals.

But in a tense context due to purchasing power, some prefer to temporize, calibrate the employees before launching a strike call that could be less followed than the one on January 19.

Summary of the mobilizations scheduled for January 31.

On the train

Starting with transportation. Meeting on January 20, the SNCF unions have already made it known that they would register “on the confederal dates with all employees”. The strikes could also occur even earlier in the railway sector since the CGT-Cheminots presented a notice “which covers from Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. to Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 8:00 a.m. hours”.

In the Parisian transport

No call for the moment from the RATP unions for a mobilization on January 31st. The representatives take the pulse of the employees to judge the relevance of such a call.

at airports

The call has also been heard on the air. The unions at Paris Charles-de-Gaulle airport have agreed to a strike on January 31.

But the mobilization promises to be difficult by admission of the unions themselves in this context of inflation where every day of strike penalizes purchasing power.

in ski resorts

A few days before the departures for the ski holidays (February 4 for zone A), it is the resorts that could suffer mobilizations. The two main ski lift employees unions, Force Ouvrière (FO) and CGT, have filed strike notices for January 31. A movement that is not expected to continue beyond next Tuesday.

To school

In National Education, the unions also call for mobilization for January 31. The SNALC (National Union of Education Professionals) has responded favorably to the strike call and even SUD Education proposes the resumption of the strike as of January 31. But this is a minority union.

In the other sectors of the civil service, the appeal of the inter-union did not raise a specific slogan.

in energy

There is no united front for the moment in the sector. In the refineries, the CGT-Petróleo plans stoppages for January 26 and 27 and February 6. But the union does not rule out joining the movement next Tuesday.

It should also be noted that CGT Mines-Énergies threatens targeted power cuts of one or two hours by the date of January 31.
