Railroad strike in February against the pension reform? The CFDT first wants to “succeed” in the 31st mobilization

In Franceinfo, the general secretary of the CFDT Cheminots, Thomas Cavel, believes that the main objective of the movement against the pension reform is to make the inter-professional strike on January 31 “massive”.

The CFDT does not “prohibit anything”, but postpones. While the CGT-Cheminots and SUD-Rail propose a renewable strike starting on February 8, the head of the CFDT Cheminots, Thomas Cavel, first sets the goal of successfully mobilizing on January 31. With Franceinfo, the union leader believes that it is necessary to “build step by step”.

“The strike and the demonstrations on January 19 were massive. It is necessary to once again demonstrate the opposition to this bad project and show the commitment of the population in general against the reform”, affirms Thomas Cavel.

However, the union leader assures that the CFDT does not “prohibit anything” and is aware that “there will surely be consequences” after the day of interprofessional mobilization on January 31.

Strike on January 7 and 8

The CGT Cheminots and SUD-Rail proposed on Tuesday a renewable strike “since mid-February” to the SNCF if the Government did not withdraw its pension reform project, with a first stage on February 7 and 8.

In a joint brochure, the organizations, respectively the first and third union of the SNCF and which account for more than 50% of the votes in the last professional elections, first called “two consecutive days of strike on February 7 and 8” and urged “all other sectors” to join, in order to “raise the balance of power.”

The unions also called on the railway workers to “act massively with the strike on January 31”, the second day of mobilization against the pension reform after the one, very often, on the 19th. That day, SNCF traffic had seen very strongly upset, with between one train in three and one in five depending on the TGV lines. Meanwhile, the regional network had seen only one train in ten.
