The strike movement against the government’s pension reform, scheduled for last Thursday and Friday at both refineries and EDF power plants, could finally end early Thursday night at most TotalEnergies sites, according to the CGT.
After a renewal of the movement “almost everywhere in the territory” on Thursday afternoon, “we are heading in many places towards a suspension tonight, to resume next Tuesday. There is a good chance that there will not be much tomorrow”, Eric Sellini. , CGT manager at TotalEnergies, told AFP.
A one-day national strike called by all unions and in all sectors, including transport, education and services, is scheduled for Tuesday.
Notice for Thursday and Friday
The question will be asked on Thursday around 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., when the TotalEnergies employees of the next shift, the night shift, will come to take office.
The CGT had initially presented a notice for Thursday and Friday. The TotalEnergies warehouse in Flanders (North) already stopped the movement on Thursday afternoon, after having counted 100% of the strikers on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, according to Benjamin Tange, central delegate of the CGT.
As for the other sites, the movement “was renewed and even progressed this afternoon”, underlines Eric Sellini, in particular at the La Mède biorefinery (Bouches-du-Rhône), it increased from 60% to almost 100% of the strikers, and that of Donges (Loire-Atlantique), with “50 to 70%” of strikers.
For Tuesday, “we expect a mobilization equivalent to that of January 19” on the TotalEnergies side, Sellini said. Between one and two million people demonstrated on January 19 against the pension reform, participating in more than 200 rallies throughout France.
