The worst seems to be behind us on the electricity front. A guest of Good Evening Business, Thomas Veyrenc, CEO of RTE’s strategy, forecasting and evaluation division confirms this: “the situation is better than in September because our consumption is falling”.
Obviously, the mild temperatures played a role, but not only. “It is also down structurally, even at normal temperatures, we are at a -8.3% drop in consumption.”
The availability of the nuclear park will drop in February
At the same time, production capacities have recovered, “we have a better offer, in nuclear, we are at about 45 Gwh, that is what we asked for in January. Still a quarter of the park that is not available in energy, but the situation has improved”, explains Thomas Veyrenc, who also highlights the “full” use of the hydraulic park.
RTE, however, remains attentive to the second half of February “because it is still winter and during this month the availability of the nuclear park will begin to drop because it will be the beginning of the maintenance cycle for the year 2023, it will be seen above all at the end of the month, Therefore, most of the risk is left behind but it is not zero risk, we must be vigilant and continue to strive to save energy”.
Another question mark: the possible consequences of a heavy blow against the pension reform among EDF agents.
“We have not issued any particular alert on this issue but it can have two types of impact. The first are the production cuts that are made in a very controlled framework and are going well. And what will be monitored in the medium to long “. deadline if there are maintenance delays and we cannot afford to leave the corridor we have indicated”, warns Thomas Veyrenc.
