Air transport: the Flybe company ceases its activity and cancels all its flights

Just over two years after bankruptcy, the British airline announced its suspension of payments and canceled all its flights.

British airline Flybe announced on Saturday that it had ceased operations and canceled all its flights. “We are saddened to report that Flybe has been placed in (judicial) administration,” the company tweeted.

The British Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has asked passengers who have booked a Flybe flight not to go to the airport, “as all Flybe flights are cancelled,” observed Paul Smith, manager, in a press release. . “It’s always sad to see an airline (go) into (legal) administration and we know that Flybe’s decision to close operations will be difficult for all its employees and customers,” he said.

Up to 530 weekly flights

Flybe had only resumed flights in April, after filing for bankruptcy in 2020 due to the pandemic that dealt a heavy blow to much of the airline industry. Previously a leader in the field of domestic flights in the United Kingdom, the company operated up to 530 flights per week, in particular from London’s Heathrow airport, to British cities but also abroad, such as Amsterdam and Geneva.

After its bankruptcy in 2020, Flybe’s assets were acquired by Thyme Opco, a company linked to the US investment fund Cyrus Capital.
