The train comes in the distance. But, to get on board, you have to wave your hand. At three small stations in Corrèze, “à la carte stops” are currently being tested. In order for the train to stop, you must greet the conductor when he approaches the platform.
On board, same principle, you have to inform the controller so that the train stops at the station. The objective of these “stops on demand” is to avoid the closure of these small rural stations, such as in Montaignac-sur-Doustre.
In the village of Corrèze, everyone seems satisfied with the compromise. “As a tourist place, we can say: here we have a station, you can come,” says a resident into the microphone of bfm tv. “Even my parents who are in Indre, can come [en train] Until now,” he adds. The station in this small town of 650 inhabitants, between Ussel and Tulle, was about to close. Although it only receives one passenger per day on average, it is still essential to the city’s appeal.
Soon other seasons?
However, for the inhabitants, the car is still the preferred means of transport. “If there is an offer, people will consider the question of taking the train instead of the car, especially when energy is very expensive,” Christian Broucaret, president of the Federation of transport user associations of New Aquitaine, wants to believe. The experiment will be carried out until autumn in these three stations: if it proves conclusive, it could be extended to other small regional stations.
A way, also, to save time for train passengers. If no one signals on the platform, the train continues on its way and therefore the journeys are shorter.
