As of this Wednesday, February 1, the conditions for exchanging and refunding SNCF tickets will be tightened. In particular, the possibility to redeem your ticket for free three days before departure, a measure that had been taken during the Covid crisis, ended.
Specifically, the free entry goes from D-3 to 6 days before the day of departure. In addition, changing your ticket now will cost you 19 euros from a week before departure, compared to 15 euros today.
Optimize filling
These less attractive conditions serve several purposes. In the first place, it is about limiting the consequences of the 5% (average) price increases applied in January, as the SNCF fears that this increase will slightly reduce the frequency of its trains.
The idea is also to put an end to this trend that would consist, according to the operator, of reserving several tickets on various dates and then being reimbursed, “the trains were full when they weren’t,” Alain Krakovitch explained a few months ago. , General Manager of Voyages SNCF.
This new condition will allow the SNCF time to return canceled or changed tickets to the market and optimize filling. A crucial goal for your finances. “The objective is to release the places sufficiently in advance so that other clients can buy them,” adds the manager.
