The night shift at the Stellantis factory in Sochaux (Doubs) will stop from April to adapt “to the production schedule”, management announced on Wednesday. “We announced on Monday at the CSE (Economic and Social Committee, editor’s note) that we only maintain two pieces of equipment as of April. We are adapting to the production schedule,” said a spokeswoman for the Stellantis factory, confirming information from France Bleu Belfort. -Montbéliard. “We had a premonition of this fall, we had been talking about it for several CSEs,” agreed Laurent Oechsel of the CFE-CGC.
The night shift had been launched in March 2017, shortly after the launch of the already highly successful Peugeot 3008. A weekend team had even been created, abolished in 2020 due to the Covid-19 epidemic. If his return had been considered, he was never reinstated afterwards, notably due to the second lockdown in November 2020. Meanwhile, the night team had been suspended for three months in the fall of 2021, this time due to semiconductor shortages.
750 worried
In total, 750 people are affected by this night shift strike. Site employees will “switch” to two-day shifts. Temporary workers “will go until the end of their contract,” says the spokesperson. “We will maintain a temporary worker flyer,” he added.
Éric Peultier, from the Force Ouvrière union, is concerned, in addition to the fate reserved for temporary workers, about the consequences “for subcontractors”. “One job lost at PSA means three jobs lost among subcontractors,” adds Jérôme Boussard, from the CGT. However, “with the projects that come to Sochaux, we will need additional staff,” the factory spokesman already projects. Thus, the launch of a new Peugeot 3008 is expected in a few months.
The factory, which implemented a new assembly system a year ago, reached its “cruising” pace of production at the beginning of the year. It currently produces around 1,200 vehicles per day. Starting in April, this figure will be reduced to around 800 vehicles per day.
