JINNOV, INSA Hauts-de-France’s Junior Creation, is on the rise

[CONTENU PARTENAIRE] Facing the reality of the world of work, while completing the course itself: this is the main objective of Junior-Companies, established within higher education establishments. JINNOV is the very young Junior-Creation of INSA Hauts-de-France, an institute specialized in training for the professions of engineers and scientists. Directed by twenty members, it is aimed at students who wish to set foot in the business world. Armel de la Bourdonnaye, director of INSA Hauts-de-France and Théa Louvradoux, president of JINNOV, answer our questions.

How was JINNOV born?

Thea Louvradoux : The Junior-Création started its activity in March 2020, at the initiative of a dozen students from the school, eager to add value to their knowledge and training. The idea is simple: allow students to carry out missions with companies and clients, depending on the course followed. We make students’ engineering skills available, responding to specific tenders or through prospecting. JINNOV is primarily aimed at engineering students who have specialized in one course and already have in-depth knowledge. Obviously there is no obligation, each candidate must demonstrate her motivation before starting a paid mission, which can last a maximum of nine months.

What are the advantages for students? And for school?

There is a whole regulatory aspect to know and respect, which is very interesting to discover. We are currently in the first stage of the process and are working to become a Junior Initiative.

Students going on mission add significant added value to their educational curriculum. They confirm their technical skills and also gain new business skills by setting foot in the world of work and, why not, meeting a future employer.

armel de la bourdonnaye : JINNOV allows INSA to shine throughout the Hauts-de-France region, which is full of industries, such as Toyota, Renault, Alstom, EDF, etc. Therefore, there are many opportunities for our students to complete their training and apply what they learn in class. Junior-Creation can also be a means to attract new students to our campus, thanks to the alumni who have invested in JINNOV for the past two years.

In what fields are the student members of JINNOV involved?

Thea Louvradoux : Our Junior-Creation responds to the needs of clients in relation to the teaching given by INSA. There are two main themes: digitization and cybersecurity; and the mechanics and energy optimization of buildings. Therefore, students may be required to develop a client website, application, or software related to strengthening cybersecurity. They can also work on GDPR compliance.

Regarding the mechanical and energy part, it deals with numerical modeling, prototyping, studies of energy flows and optimization of the energy consumption of a building, etc. We work with town halls, town halls, but also with SMEs and large groups.

armel de la bourdonnaye : Cybersecurity and the energy transition are very important issues right now. Cyber attacks represent a real threat to institutions and companies. Thanks to its teacher-researchers, women and its partners, INSA remains firmly rooted in the present, and wants to develop its training courses to meet the needs of the labor market. That is why we offer, for example, a master’s degree and a specialty in cybersecurity engineering. We proceed in the same way for the issue of energy transition, particularly for civil works. We also train on the subject of mobility and transport, the industry of the future and digital technology.

How does INSA Hauts-de-France support this Junior Creation?

armel de la bourdonnaye : The institute has supported the project from the beginning, as it does with other student initiatives. It seemed important to us to support these students who want to prosper and come into contact with the business world in a very concrete way, through various aspects: communication, commerce, administrative management, etc. It is a commitment that requires rigor and a lot of organization. The institute has provided financial assistance and we are also a communication link for JINNOV, which also benefits from our links with companies in our local ecosystem. It really is a win-win system.
