It will be possible to request up to three consecutive days of medical leave via SNS24, on the mainland and via similar digital services, in the autonomous regions, and up to twice a year, according to a PS proposal to amend the Labor Code approved with vote for PS, BE and abstain PSD and PCP next Thursday during the meeting of the Working Group Agenda Decent Work.
The socialists’ proposal will make it easier to justify sick leave at work, making a medical certificate at the health center or hospital unnecessary. The employee can make use of this mechanism for a maximum of three consecutive days and a maximum of twice a year by signing a declaration on honor.
After the communists even asked for the vote on the PS project to be postponed, PCP deputy Alfredo Maia finally gave in, despite the various criticisms leveled.
The Communist MP equated SNS24’s request for a certificate with “self-medication and self-treatment”, defending that the “employee is entitled to health and not sick leave”.
The PSD warned that requests for easy redundancies could jeopardize the phone line, so it decided to verbally submit a proposal to “endow SNS24 with the necessary material and human resources” to respond to the new positions, the social worker said. Democratic Delegate, Nuno Carvalho.
The initiative ultimately failed with the votes against the PS, for the PSD and with the abstentions of the PCP and BE.
