Strike on Tuesday, February 7: which sectors will mobilize?

In transport, energy or public service, the unions launched a new strike call on February 7, in accordance with the national slogan of the eight main organizations.

Opponents of pension reform want to keep up the pressure. After the successful mobilization on January 31, the inter-union made up of the main organizations representing workers and youth has called for two new days of action on Tuesday, February 7, and Saturday, February 11.

A call broadcast since then in various sectors of activity. Which should suffer a major break next Tuesday, so it will be the third day of protest against the pension reform. General description.

• Transport

The main unions of the SNCF have called a third day of strike against the pension reform for Tuesday, February 7, following the general slogan. On the other hand, the union seems to be cracking for Wednesday the 8th, while the CGT Cheminots and SUD Rail maintained their strike call for that day, without being followed by Unsa and the CFDT, who maintain the slogan of the eight main French unions .

Regarding Saturday the 11th, finally, it is the uncertainty that dominates. If the unions seem at this moment to want to launch a call not for a strike but only for a demonstration, in particular not to “block the holiday crossing” according to SUD-Rail, their position should be clarified by the end of this week or the beginning of the next. As a reminder, 36.5% of railway workers were on strike on January 31, compared to 46% on January 19.

Public transport in Ile-de-France should also be disrupted on Tuesday, as the RATP inter-union union of representative organizations launched a new strike call on February 7 and 11. “We call on all company agents to continue and expand the mobilization for the strike and the demonstration on Tuesday, February 7 and then on Saturday, February 11 to say no to this reform,” the CGT, FO, the UNSA and the CFE-CGC in a joint press release.

Finally, in air transport, the controllers union USACcgt filed a strike notice for Tuesday, February 7. It calls on “all DGAC and ENAC personnel to carry out a massive strike and to participate in the demonstrations”, specifying that the notice also applies “for the nights when agents go up and down at staggered hours”.

• Energy

At EDF and other companies in the electricity and gas sector, a new strike call has been launched for the 6th, 7th and 8th of February.

On the CGT TotalEnergies side, we finally called a 48-hour strike, Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 February, compared to the 72 hours initially planned, to favor unity with other powers, stalling in particular the call for railway workers.

If at first it was also planned to stop production in the refineries, “what we are going to offer (employees) for 48 hours is ‘nothing comes in, nothing comes out’, as always,” explained Thierry Dufresne, secretary of the CGT from that of the TrotalEnergies Europe committee, adding that to “know if the employees are prepared” for a shutdown of the facilities, it is first necessary to “test (strikes) renewables.”

• Education

Several youth organizations and student unions called on Thursday “to do everything possible to broadly mobilize the youth. In particular by voting in the general assembly to block our places of study, secondary schools, universities, next February 7.” we could read in a joint statement. “From now on we call to join the strikes and demonstrations of February 7 and 11,” they continued.

Several unions representing National Education staff and more broadly the Public Service also called to join the strike on February 7.
