Bpifrance bought the capital of French railway manufacturer Alstom with a 5.1% stake, highlighting its place “at the center of environmental issues”, the public bank announced on Monday. The operation involves the purchase of about 19.2 million shares, according to the Financial Markets Authority, at a cost of more than 500 million euros.
The operation was carried out by the Lac1 fund, managed by Bpifrance on behalf of French and international investors and “dedicated to supporting large listed companies,” according to the public bank.
A transaction made “in the market”
The train builder “is delighted with this announcement that demonstrates Alstom’s attractiveness, the relevance of its strategy and its long-term growth prospects,” a spokeswoman reacted. At the end of June 2022, Alstom’s capital was held by 70.5% institutional investors, 17.5% by the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), 10.6% by individual investors and 1.4% of employees.
The operation announced this Monday was carried out “in the market”, indicates the Financial Markets Authority, without further details. Listed in Paris, Alstom’s shares closed Monday with a fall of 2.81%, at 27.35 euros, in a market also falling.
