Boeing expects to cut around 2,000 financial and human resources executive positions this year through a plan of layoffs and natural departures, a representative for the US aircraft manufacturer confirmed to the Seattle Times on Monday.
In January, the Virginia-based company announced it would hire about 10,000 employees this year, while indicating that some secondary positions would be eliminated.
“Over time, some corporate departments have gotten a bit too big. And with that growth often comes red tape or disparate systems that are inefficient,” Boeing director of communications Mike Friedman was quoted as saying by the Seattle Times.
Reuters did not immediately get any comment from the US planemaker.
