Foreigners on NOS Levend spent an average of five nights in Lisbon

They are young and went to NOS Levend in 2022. A total of 85 thousand people attended the festival (60 thousand Portuguese and 25 thousand foreigners), and now Nova SBE is revealing the tourism impact the event had in Lisbon and Portugal. According to the survey, 50% of international visitors spent an average of five nights in the Portuguese capital, after choosing to rent a house or stay in hotels. The amount paid per night averaged around 71.46 euros and each festival-goer spent a total of 357 euros to sleep.

National festival-goers, who do not live in the capital, spent an average of 3.86 nights in Lisbon staying with friends or relatives (42%). There were others who preferred to leave the city to sleep (26%) and 17% chose to stay in a hotel or hostel.

On average, non-Lisbon Portuguese spent about 60 euros per night. And to get to the NOS Alive location, 43% chose to use their own car and 37.2% chose to travel by train or bus.

To arrive in our country, 76% of foreigners opted for the plane and half of this percentage decided to use low-cost airlines. In Portugal and to travel to Passeio Marítimo de Algés, most respondents used the train, but bus and TVDE were also used to reach the festival site.

Most participants purchased day or four-day passes.

While 81% of foreign festival-goers indicated they were in Lisbon for the festival, many others (41%) indicated that they were visiting or had already been to other regions of Portugal. Those who planned to stay alive after NOS wanted to get to know the Center (41%) and North (29%) regions of the country. They will have spent an average of nine nights on national territory.

Of the total number of respondents, 558 English youth (15.5% of the sample) were aged between 21 and 30. Of these, over 68% said it was their first visit to Lisbon and about 80% said it was also their debut at the festival. And it was friends (36.4%) and social networks (23.5%) who discovered the event.

The British stayed in Lisbon between three and six nights and chose a hotel or hostel and rented house (Airbnb) for their stay. Each Englishman spent an average of 74 euros per night.

The Portuguese

Of the 1193 Portuguese surveyed for this Nova SBE survey, half are from Lisbon and the rest are from Porto (11.4%) and Setúbal (7.6%). Of this sample, 54% were under the age of 25, in contrast to foreigners who were mostly over the age of 26.

Just under 50% of people had already taken part in the festival, the majority of whom had attended no more than three previous editions and the vast majority already knew Lisbon.
There is a strong desire to return to NOS Alive, with 67% of Portuguese saying they are very likely to return for the next edition of the festival. From the side of foreigners, only 50% point to this possibility.

For this study, 3600 people were surveyed, in a sample with 66.2% foreigners (2392) and 33.8% (1208) Portuguese, and a margin of error of 2% and 3% respectively. The research was conducted over the four days of the festival.
